Chicagos Independent Musicians to Perform in Support of Save the Earth Foundation
CHICAGO—April 10, 2000— HomePrideProductions.com announced today that they will co-promote a benefit concert in association with the Save the Earth Foundation. The event will take place on April 30, 2000 at the Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. (Show Time: 4:00pm), one of Chicago’s premier music clubs. The bill of acts scheduled to perform reads like a virtual "who’s who" of Chicago’s vibrant independent music scene. For a $10 donation, the public (21 and over) may enjoy ten critically acclaimed and proven crowd-pleasing acts, performing to raise funds and awareness for the Save The Earth Foundation. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, April 15 at 12:00noon through TicketMaster, and will also be available at the Double Door box office (cash only, 12:00 – 6:00pm, Monday-Saturday).
The LINEUP:
- Plastics HiFi – Psychedelic-glam-popsters have already packed the Double Door on their own. Favorably reviewed by Tribune Rock Critic Greg Kot, as well as by Spin Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Reader and New City Chicago.
- Forty Piece Choir - This seven-piece band puts on an striking live show which, again, has already packed the Double Door on its own merits. They have also earned airplay on Richard Milne’s WXRT-FM program, as well as on Q101-FM and WLUW.
- EAT A PEACH – Southern rock band with instrumental prowess in the tradition of the Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their live show and CD "Turbulence and Thunder" has received critical praise in Midwest Beat Magazine and the Crown Point Times (IN). This past June, they played to thousands at the World amphitheater in Tinley Park, opening for Santana and earning an encore.
- Monkey Paw - Aggressive alternative/punk rock band has been featured on Richard Milne’s WXRT-FM show. Their Four Alarm Records CD "Hating You is So Easy" has earned critical praise from the New City Chicago weekly. They recently appeared at Austin’s SXSW Festival, earning favorable reviews.
- Geoff Songs – Brainchild of Chicago native, popster Geoff Beran (now residing in downstate Bloomington). Geoff has recently been returning to play Chicago clubs in support of his new CD, "Geoff Songs," and is the subject of an upcoming Illinois Entertainer feature by Dean Ramos. Watch your newsstand for Geoff in IE.
- Ether Frolics – Their 1998 CD "40K" was named one of the Illinois Entertainer’s "Top Ten Chicago CDs of the Year." They have just returned to Chicago from an extensive tour of Europe. The band is delighted to be playing to hometown audiences once again.
- Radioslave - Melodic pop-rock band has earned airplay on WXRT and Q101. The band is also a download favorite on MP3.com, having had 2 songs in the Alternative Top 20.
- Thirdleg - Up and coming young rock and roll studs are ready to break wide open. They promote their far too infrequent live gigs with an incendiary e-mail campaign.
- Drowning Noah – Folk/pop duo has appeared on ABC World News Tonight and have had songs included on MP3.com’s widely distributed CD compilation "103 of the Greatest Songs You’ve Never Heard).
- Wild Hell Dogs - "Space country" duo (and friends) has received critical raves for their concept CD "Early Times." They will also perform new songs from their next upcoming concept, "Sundown," which is based loosely on the life of Elvis Presley (circa 2000). Basic tracks were recorded at legendary Sun Studios (Memphis) with Gary Hardy (who has engineering credits with U2, Jerry Lee Lewis, Beck, Bonnie Raitt, and many other famous artists).

HomePrideProductions.com is issuing a corporate challenge pledge drive for matching funds to supplement the projected $5,000 to be raised by ticket sales. Pledge targets include Chicago (and industry) business leaders. The Double Door has already been named as the first sponsor, having agreed to donate hall rental, sound and lighting systems and staff, bar and support staff, advertising and more. Gibson Graphics, Inc. (Chicago), has also been identified as a sponsor, and will be providing printing for posters and an event program booklet. "Anyone who doesn’t pledge either a cash donation or a donation of Gift in Kind will be publicly humiliated," kids Joost.
The MUSIC:
"Our lineup for this concert bears witness that the ‘Chicago sound’ is not confined to merely one particular genre of music like other regional music and cultural ‘explosions’ (like say, Seattle)," says Home Pride CEO/Program Director, David Joost, "but is rather a big, beautiful noise made up of a wide variety of musical traditions. These artists are carrying the rich musical heritage of Chicago into the new century. Furthermore, all of the artists contributing their talents to this event are either completely independent or record for small independent labels. Many of them have their own websites and/or pages on MP3.com, CDBaby.com, IUMA.com, Earbuzz.com and other similar sites where they create and sell their own CDs. In a way, I feel that together we are telling the ‘major label’ music industry that ‘we don’t need you any more,’ and are helping to define new directions in the music industry."
