Concert and dance party on the waterfront for a day of fun in the sun To Celebrate Earth Day 2002

Medicine Drum, Playground, Jana Herzen and Alma Melodioso plus special guest DJ‘s - DJ Dragonfly, SoulSalaam, DJ chiKa - will perform at Kelly‘s Mission Rock at the 3rd annual Save The Earth Fest 2002, a benefit concert and dance for The Save the Earth Foundation.
Join us for what is sure to be a day of bay-side fun, sun, and incredible original music influenced by the numerous rhythms of the earth.

The Save the Earth Foundation functions as a 501 ( c) (3) non-profit corporation dedicated to the expansion of environmental awareness in our society. Save the Earth solves major environmental problems by providing grants to college and university professors and funds environmental research and education programs which train students and solve environmental problems in air pollution, ozone damage, global warming, deforestation, ground water contamination, ocean contamination and wildlife extinction to name a few. Research grants from the Save the Earth Foundation will help slow - and ultimately reverse - our planet's deterioration.
The Save the Earth Foundation embraces overall objectives including enhancing the quality of our global environment for the benefit of all people and promoting a better understanding of the effect that our society has on the long term health of our planet.

DJ Dragonfly (Groove Garden/Ambient Groove Temple)
DJ Dragonfly is the creator of numerous monthly and annual gatherings from Sonoma to Santa Cruz. His events consistently reflect a personal mission statement of offering dance and gatherings as a celebration of self, spirit and community.
Fusing that concept to the masses is his signature mix of uplifting percussion powered, internationally sampled ‘Gaiatronic‘ grooves inspired by years of globetrotting through some 37 countries. Influenced heavily by the Asian Underground scene and a life long
commitment to performing on percussive instruments scene his styles incorporate everything from nu-skool breaks to tribal house to village drumming, even incorporating live drums and didgeridoo.
Credits include: Creation of the Cosmik Casbah, The Groove Garden, Mantra Lounge, Gathering of Light and co-production on the Ambient Groove Temple and Earthdance. He is a regularly featured DJ on the conscious dance-culture scene which, in addition to his own events, includes Mystic Beat Lounge, Anon Salon, Fusion Festival, Thump Radio/T.R.I.P. and Harbin Hot Springs. Locally he has either performed with, hosted or promoted notable acts such as Jai Uttal, Lost at Last, Medicine Drum, Foxgluv, Waterjuice, Spearhead, Lumin, Cheb i Sabbah, Hamsa Lila and Shabaz.

SOULSALAAM is a trained West African/Brazilian hand percussionist, Deejay, music producer, event curator, dancer and an eternal traveler. Living up to the honorable acclaim, "THE WORLD IS HIS TURNTABLE", SOULSALAAM shines with uniqueness. Exploring beyond the limitations of genres and categories, his set flows through all styles of music, past and present, connecting the ancient masters with their contemporary electronic counterparts. He has cultivated the skills necessary to know what the atmosphere calls for: bringing the dance floor into an ecstatic frenzy or flowing with ambience.
SOULSALAAM has been creating multi-media/multi-cultural events as FUTURE JuJu Productions for the past four years. With the consciousness raising intention of fusing cultural music, live electronic music, dance performance, visuals, performance art, political activism and community awareness, he creates an experience that observes all facets of life and showcases diverse creative depths.

Fusing a progressive psy-trance sound with a more tribal edge, Medicine Drum have been described as the techno-pagans of electronica where ancient meets modern and organic meets digital. Founded in London in1995 by electronic producer and percussionist Chris Dekker, their unique sound has gained them a wide international following, with tours across the world from Europe to Asia and Africa to the USA.

Conceived in the winter of ‘97-‘98 the Playground project was born from over a decade of experimentation and performances in many combined musical realms.
Playground‘s evolving ensemble boasts of an ever-growing family of Bay Area, National, and Internationally acclaimed artists. Over seventy musicians, poets, emcees, singers, and deejays have collaborated with the Playground during its near four years of existence.
Presently, the live Playground configuration describes their music as "Live improvised, Instrumental House/Garage, Drum and Bass/Breaks, and Downtempo (Dub, Trip-Hop, Ambient)," a.k.a./ "The Live Dub Experience," and is composed of the following core players: Neiel Cavin, Jason Williams, Robin Livingston, Jomial Alen-Jones.

Jana Herzen's musical adventures include writing songs in Bali, jamming with aboriginals in Outback Australia and performing for Nelson Mandela in Paris. Her album, "Soup's on Fire", recorded in Paris and San Francisco, also travels through exotic territories. Its richly layered soundscapes are born of her collaboration with Afro-Parisian producer and performer Shakä Râ Mutela, whom Carlos Santana calls a "musical visionary." Shakä Râ also co-wrote the song, "Yaleo" on Santana's hit CD "Supernatural".
